PARTICIPANTS' INFO

The KASKI group

The KASKI group is a group of senior people who meet and travel together, in connection with arts and culture. They make their own pilgrim's staffs and memory games which they use in their meetings. The staffs and picture cards carry the memories of their owners' life story, and thus they help all those interested to meet the history of culture and modern art.

The Strawberry Place

The Strawberry Place is a functional exhibition and an event connected with meetings between the old and the young. Together with the members of the KASKI group, Riitta Heikkinen took a long trip around the country. The pilgrim's staffs and memory games produced by the participants of the trips are used used during the meetings at Annantalo, which is an arts centre for children and youth in Helsinki. The seniors share their impressions with the audience, and the themes of the exhibition are discussed in Annantalo's art classes and during the training courses in the schools of Helsinki.

Annantalo Arts Centre

Annantalo is an arts centre for children and young people in the centre of Helsinki. Annantalo offers art education, exhibitions and dance performances and theatre productions. In addition, Annantalo works together closely with schools. During daytimes the centre is filled with primary school children who attend art classes. Several times a year family event days are held at Annantalo. Annantalo is housed in a former school that was designed by architect Gustaf Nyström and completed in 1886. The City of Helsinki converted the building in 1987 into an art centre for children and young people that is administratively under the Helsinki City Cultural Centre. The Swedish Travelling Exhibition

To understand and influence one´s time We build exhibitions, tour with exhibitions and train people in how to work with exhibitions. We seek to help people to understand and influence their own time. Exhibitions are our tool. In our new premises in Visby we have everything necessary to create and tour with striking and stimulating exhibitions: carpentry shop, advanced computing technology and even our own custom-built exhibition trailer. But primarily we have lots of highly creative people on the staff.

Courses for professionals and amateurs

We do not merely build exhibitions. An equally important aspect of our work is in sharing our expertise with others. In 2006 we organized no less than 8 seminars and courses for professionals and amateurs who were keen to learn more about how exhibitions can be used as a narrative tool.

Always in collaboration

All our projects are done in collaboration with others. These partners can be government bodies, interest groups, museums or similar. Often the Swedish Travelling Exhibitions is responsible for the expertise necessary to build the exhibition while the collaborating partner has the knowledge of the subject. Do not hesitate to contact us! Propose an exhibition. Invite us to visit your place of work. Or come and see us in our fantastic newly built premises.

Grassmarket Project

Grassmarket Project is a theatre company where the issues of social exclusion and social justice are crucial to the artistic process and its product. It aims to achieve a particularly raw kind of authenticity, where people speak their own truths in their own voices.
Jeremy Weller, Artistic Director, is unapologetic about striving for both artistic and social goals in the company's work split about 60/40 between the two. Young people with no previous experience of the arts have the opportunity to work alongside the very best professional actors to produce work of the highest quality. Experience has shown that working in this way can have a radically positive impact on the lives of the young people - their education, their creativity and other areas of their social development. This brings an extremely authentic and explosive edge to the artwork, which an audience is often overwhelmed by.
Since 1990, the GMP has won numerous awards for its 37 projects (including 27 dramatic productions) in 20 countries, with participants from all walks of life.
These include:
The physically disabled, the aged, soldiers, immigrants, refugees, the long term unemployed, women in isolation, the mentally ill, the homeless, street-children, young offenders, as well as young individuals, who have suffered physical exploitation, racism, homelessness and war.
Most recently "youth at risk" have become the predominant focus of the GMP's work. Current works in progress involve young people who are, or are at risk of: anti-social behaviour, truanting, school exclusion, joining gangs and street crime.
Grassmarket Project has won 19 UK and Worldwide awards for its daring combination of social investigation and drama, including 6 Scotsman Fringe Firsts Awards, 5 Edinburgh Evening News Awards, Prudential Arts Award short list and numerous international theatre awards.

Temple Bar Cultural Trust

Supporting Culture in Temple Bar
Temple Bar Cultural Trust is a private limited company that works on a not-for-profit basis to support culture here in Temple Bar.
We value self-reliance and we fund all of our core activity from our property income.

We support culture in 4 ways:
First, we look after the 14 nationally important cultural buildings and 4 public spaces that we own. We provide discounts worth €2m to the artists and cultural organisations that use our buildings and space. Many of these organisations are of national significance and this is recognised by the Arts Council who provide over €9m annually (15% of the national allocation of revenue grants) to support their work.

Second, we commission new work in all artforms and we like to work with others to co-present, co-produce and co-commission new work.

Third, we organise over 250 free outdoor cultural events each year, including the Dublin Handel Festival, Dublin Culture Night and the Temple Bar Chocolate Festival.

Fourth, we run the Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre, a unique drop-in Centre where you’ll find friendly expert staff to help you make the most of your time in Temple Bar.

Temple Bar Cultural Trust is governed by a Board appointed by Dublin City Council and has a full-time core staff of 13 plus weekend and seasonal staff and stewards.
