The Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in cooperation with The Pomeranian Science and Technology Park has initiated the project CULTURE - PASS IT ON (on 5-6 November in Gdansk and Gdynia, Poland). CULTURE-PASS IT ON has several levels. It is about passing on knowledge and good practices from the more to the less experienced (i.e. the knowledge transfer from the Nordic cultural operators and policy makers to Polish ones). It is also about passing on culture from the more developed areas to the less developed ones (e.g. urban to rural) and most of all about passing on culture from the professional artists involved in creating it to its recipients of all ages through various means of cultural education so that the recipients become the creators themselves. We would like to present several model examples in the Nordic countries (Denmark: TEATERCENTRUM, Finland: ANNANTALO ARTS CENTER, KASKI GROUP, Norway: THE CULTURAL RUCKSACK, BARNAS HUS and Sweden: TRAVELLING EXHIBITION, FOLKBILDING) as well as some other European countries e.g.(MULTIMEDIA EXPERIMENTAL CENTRE from France). The project consists of the debates and workshops The participants of the project are artists, teachers, cultural operators as well representatives of local and national governments responsible for culture and education. We hope that the presentation of good practices, combined with workshops and panel discussions will encourage further in-depth debates and systematic changes concerning cultural education and participation in cultural events in Poland, on the one hand, and enable starting new joint projects between cultural operators from Poland and the Nordic countries, on the other. The project will also mark the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009 as one of the leading themes will be the importance of the innovative solutions in projects and the use of new technologies in art.
We believe in the creative potential of cities. We are convinced that the title of European Capital of Culture is a powerful tool in activating the inhabitants of the city. That’s why the conference includes a special thematic bloc dedicated to this issue.
